A career in Anthropology

A career in anthropology can take you across the world. Therefore if you are interested in society and how it works then read on

What Do Anthropologists Do?
Anthropologists are obsessed with how the world works in terms of “society”. How does our political and class system work? what does our gender role mean? How has our languages developed, what are the customs of our culture? etc. Anthropologists therefore, study the make-up of our society as whole.

Before you think this doesn’t sound very exciting don’t forget that anthropology is used every day. Are you a Big Brother fan for example. If you found it fascinating watching the relationships grow in the Big Brother house then it’s either a career in psychology or anthropology for you!

Anthropologists tend to be people who have strong communication skills and who can develop good interpersonal relationships with people from all backgrounds and communities. They work across the board from human resources departments in businesses, to the healthcare industry through to community development.

Training As An Anthropologists
Many anthropologists require training at degree and level before they can become consultants where they can work freelance. Many anthroplogists also have a specialist area such as a biological anthropologist or a physical anthropologist. Most students however start out stusying for a degree in asocial anthroplogy.
