My hope is to make the community aware that there is good news in the black community…that the black community possesses business people who can be successful.”
Levi Roots is one of the recent success stories from the BBC Entrepreneur programme Dragon’s Den. Levi wowed the dragons with his Reggae-Reggae sauce, taken from his Jamaican grandmother's recipe, with his unique ‘all singing’ marketing campaign and managed to secure an investment of £50,000 with a 40% equity from UK entrepreneur Peter Jones and Australian Richard Farleigh.
Since then, Levi has signed an exclusive contract with Sainsbury's and the sales for his Reggae-Raggae Sauce have gone through the roof. They have sold already more than 250,000 bottles of the sauce and are now having to produce 150,000 bottles each week to keep up with the demand. After his six month exclusive contract with Sainsbury’s ends he will then be expanding into all other supermarkets. Levi has been blending the sauce for more than 16 years in the UK at the Notting Hill Carnival and in his local community, having got permission from the food standard authorities to produce the sauce in his kitchen.. “My hope is to make the community aware that there is good news in the black community “said Levi, “that the black community possesses business people who can be successful.”
